Happy Nest, 2024
Collaboration with Studio ARTES
Burwood, Sydney
This project includes the artworks of 21 Studio ARTES members. The project was funded by Burwood City Council for International Day of Persons with Disability.
Studio ARTES is a support studio that provides creative arts and life skill programs and support for adults with disability.
The design was developed over 2 months through a series of creative workshops. The artists were also apart of the painting process. Creating opportunities for the artist to gain professional experience in mural design, projecting onto walls and painting.
I was the lead artist for this project. I was responsible for developing and facilitating the workshops for the artworks creation and delivering the final artwork print file.
Artwork Statement
Happy Nest is designed like a bird’s nest — a safe, welcoming space for all. The bright colours draw the community together, while affirmations of kindness and love, inspired by Andrew Tabakovic's poetry, aim to make you feel “happy, loved, and warm."
Inside the poles, small critters and human figures inspired by Bridget Kelly’s creative practice bring a sense of warmth and friendliness to the space. Created from Bridget’s visits to Burwood Park, these playful characters are designed to make you feel “nice, kind, and friendly” as you discover them moving through the area, adding a whimsical touch to your experience.
